What is mindfulness?
You've probably heard the term "mindfulness" somewhere, and that's great, but what does mindfulness really mean? There are many things you could do to be more mindful, many techniques you could use, but what do they all come down to?
Mindfulness is all about allowing yourself to relax, and tune in your mind on one thing only. Multi-tasking is somethign we do a lot of these days, but it's not good for us, as it easily can make us stress. You've probably experienced having a hectic day at school or work where you have a lot to do, so you try to do all of it at the same time. But does trying to eat a meal while browsing the internet, writing down ideas and chatting with a friend or co-worker ever really work? It could, but it's not good for you in the long run, and that's why you should go ahead and try being more mindful.
How can you be more mindful? It really doesn't take much effort or time, so there is no reason to stress about it or make excuses. Have you heard of mindful eating, meditation or mindful yoga? It may sound a little bit complicated, but trust me, it's really not - as I said earlier, it's really all about being present in the moment and allowing yourself to only focus on one thing. Mindful eating, for instance, is nothing else than letting yourself enjoy your meal, taking in all of the sensations and flavours. You should allow yourself to take your time eating, it should be a time to unwind.
Try mindfulness, you have nothing to lose. In fact, mindfulness techniques can help you achieve a healthier and happier you!
