Depression: when you forget how amazing you are
When dealing with depression we tend to believe we are the only ones experiencing what we are currently going through.
Repeatedly telling ourselves that we are "nothing for the ones we love", that "no one can understand us", etc. without trying to find out more about our state of mind is a form of self-harming. We are responsible for our own lives and no matter how bad we feel or how alone we think we are, we must try to reach out to someone.
- Seeking help isn't equal with being weak and incapable. It's about being aware of your limits and wishing to understand more what you can actually control and how.
- Going to a psychologist isn't equal with lacking the power to help yourself. It's about admitting you need a little bit of guidance and sometimes that's just everything.
We live in a world where all sorts of speakers tell us about the importance of positive thinking. But positive thinking without realistic expectations and a change in the way we act is useless. It means we are just fooling ourselves.
So many CBT practitioners (cognitive behavioral therapy) and NLP coaches (neuro-linguistic programming) teach us about the fact we need to become more focused on our thoughts and feelings in order to control our lives better.
Whatever it is you are dealing with, it takes a lot of time to recover and the first step is to want to improve yourself! So don't forget about:
- To want to fight even if you have to do it alone!
